ROMANIAN HYMN

Official name:ROMANIA - This name was adopted in 1862, after the formation of the national state by the union of the two Romanian Principalities of Wallachia and Moldavia in 1859
Capital: BUCHAREST municipality (divided into 6 administrative districts) with a population of 2,032,000 (1998). Situated in the south of the country, in the Romanian Plain (alt 85 m), the city dates from the 14th century and is recorded in writing for the first time in 1459 as residence of Prince Vlad Tepes. Capital of Wallachia in the 17th-19th centuries, then of Romania since 1862.
Area: 238,500 sq km (91,843 sq miles).
Population: 22,474,000
National Day: December 1st was adopted as National Day in 1990, being the day of celebration of the Great Assembly of Alba Iulia which voted for the union of Transylvania with Romania and which symbolise the union of all Romanians within a single state and the achievement of the unity of Romanian national state.

You can call from the public telephone cabins by using the telephone cards of 100.000 lei and 200.000 lei and the new prepaid cards Evrikard of 100.000 lei ( credit 100.000 lei ) 180.000 lei( credit 200.000 lei ) and 400.000 lei( credit 500.000 lei ).With these you can make a phone call (using an access code) from a fix telephone (excepting mobiles)
There is also the new PCVOICE card( of 5$,10$ and more) which you can use to make international calls at national tariffs.

It is advised to change every day small sums of money because the inflation of leu is very high. The small change currencies are generally reliable and expose every day the changes that had been made.

Always inform yourself in advance on the prices in public (taxis,not exposed prices, etc).

Always use drink water from sealed bottles ( most important marks: Borsec, Perla , Perla Harghita , Doina ).The food is very caloric, and does not have particular hygienic problems.

Visitors are allowed to import up to 200 cigarettes 4 litres of wine and 1 litre of spirits.Technically,cash over US$1000 must be declared.

Speed inside the city is limited 50km/h (90km/h out of the town) and is strictly enforced by the police.

Drink driving (any alcohol over the limit) is punishable by confiscation of license.
